James is a successful entrepreneur and executive with three decades of experience as a facilitator, systems engineer and management consultant.
The knowledge and values that James applies today was acquired during his formative years with A.T. Kearney, Electronic Data Systems (EDS), his family business and postgraduate education.
Growing up in a landscaping business, James was immersed in an environment of determination, patience and work ethic required to grow a successful multi-generational company. This decade of experiences strongly shaped his understanding of service, retailing fundamentals and selling techniques. Today, he continues to apply these learnings when directing the Fundamental Group.
James is an expert in facilitated planning and growth consulting. As an accomplished entrepreneur, new opportunities to expand the Fundamental Group are currently in development. These include divisions that focus on solving complex problems, mentoring next-level leaders, and providing advanced leadership to startup accelerators.
James was recruited from university to work with EDS Corporation in the United States. At the heart of EDS is their Systems Engineering Development Program. This three-year process of classroom and practical training was the anchor that attracted him to the company. Classic IT application development and waterfall systems lifecycle management methods were practiced.
As concepts like intranet and extranet emerged, James joined EDS’s newly formed Internet & New Media Group as a business consultant. This platform’s potential, and the style of discovery process applied, opened up his imagination to the original business value of information technology and the management consulting industry.
After completing the first year of a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University, James’ first impressions of Australia were formed while he was part of a team that assembled the EDS Australia 1999 Business Plan. Before returning to the United States to complete his MBA, James participated in an exchange student program with the Melbourne Business School.
A.T. Kearney provided the next chapter of James’s professional development when he joined the Sydney office just prior to the 2000 Summer Olympic Games. The consulting process (planning, fact gathering, analysis and communication) is the keystone of the A.T. Kearney organisation. He acquired these skills and applied the tools while working with talented client and consultant teams. Delivering outcomes in a collaborative way was a point of difference at A.T. Kearney. This philosophy and culture is now practiced throughout the Fundamental Group.
James married Madeleine in 2006 and was granted Australian citizenship in 2011.
